For the third year ZACH Theatre has hosted a regional host for a nationwide play writing contest for middle school students sponsored by TYA/USA and AATE. This competition focused on giving voice to our nation’s young writers. The project looks to harness the creativity of young playwrights and bring focus to real world issues. This years theme is “Bullying”
A staged reading celebrating the work of all our playwrights will be held on April 29th at 7 pm. To get tickets please click here.
The mission of Young Playwrights for Change is to produce meaningful conversations about family that will ripple across our nation to provoke change. Our goal is to spark conversation and discussion throughout classrooms, schools, and communities about the chosen topic.
This year ZACH recieved 250 plays from schools across Austin. Judges from ZACH, University of Texas, Creative Action, and other community members read and scored all the plays.
Last year’s winning play , A Stand for Equality… And Friendship, won 3rd place in the national competition and will be published in an anthology. Our 2015 Winner, The Flower Girl received an honorable mention and has been published. To purchase a copy or for more information click here.
